Pomegranate Taste Testing

Entries for the Chico Home Brew Competition are due in one week. I have a couple beers I'll be entering, and was contemplating entering a mead or cider. As it happens, I have a pomegranate mead and pomegranate cider both bottled. I wanted to taste each on their own, and then mixed together.

We both agree, the cider on its own is the winner. It has a great tartness, and fit right in the specs for a category 28B Other Fruit Cider.

I like the mead too, but it just doesn't have the ooomph of the other meads we taste from our club. You know, the 15 year old 18% varieties.

Mead Day

Just a random photo from our beer club's mead day. We made a "clean out the freezer" fruit mead, with blackberries, cherries, and strawberries. We also sampled lots of meads, from pomegranate, to peach, to cherry. All yummy.

Random Beer Stuff - Mead, Caldera, Hops

My first Mead! A sparkling sweet mead courtesy of a friend, Kari, who swapped me this and some brew offerings for an old push mower I hadn't used in years. It was interesting to try, as I've never had a mead before. very bubbly, not overly sweet, and packed a good punch:

An offering from Caldera Brewing in Ashland, OR. A very nice Amber, in a can. I wouldn't have been able to tell it came from a can though. Great maltyness with a good solid amber bite of nuts in the middle. Very yummy:

The hops are doing pretty good, especially considering how cool and wet this year has been. Things should take off this week though, as temps will be hitting the mid 80s through the end of the week:
